Sharing experiences as an Oracle Database Consultant
Discoverer shows down in Grid Control while up.
Short one this time, all in favour of getting my green ‘pie’ in Grid Control management server.
Grid Control: 10.2.0.5. Discoverer: 10.1.2.x
In Grid Control, after upgrade to 10.2.0.5, a Discoverer target shows down in the list, while it’s functioning quite well.
It seemed an old bug (Grid Ctrl 10.1.04) is still not fixed:
- Bug 4474849 / 3897834 ‘DISCOVERER INSTANCES ALWAYS SHOW DOWN’
- Note: 332363.1
Solution:
1- Remove the Application Server target which owns the Discoverer component (10.1.2) in the Grid Control
2- Stop the agent
3- Backup the file %CENTRAL_AGENT_ORACLE_HOME%/sysman/admin/metadata/oracle_discoverer.xml file.
Replace this file by:
%BI_ORACLE_HOME%/sysman/admin/metadata/oracle_discoverer.xml file
BI_ORACLE_HOME corresponds to the Oracle_Home where Discoverer 10.1.2 is installed.
4- Restart the agent
5- Rediscover the Application Server target on the host, by typing (Agent-environment) ‘agentca -d’.

Hi, thank you for your comment. If you are using 10.2.0.5 that’s strange indeed (10.1.0.4 has something similar problem). When it might be helpful, I can send you my oracle_discoverer.xml, just to compare (there is no secret information in it as far as I know). Otherwise you should consider a service request at Metalink

I have identical issue i.e GC still shows Discoverer is “status pending” and hence MidTier as down in GC where as everything is UP in AS console right on the machine. I did exactly all steps per 332363.1 In fact I had to go 1 step forward..I have a firewall between GC host and AS..so when I want to upload AS, I had to request FW security person to allow non-SSL communication in order to allow ‘emctl secure agent’ command to go through successfully. The oracle_discover.xml file is identical on both GC as well as AS but at the end; no change! i.e. Discoverer is shown “status pending” and hence the midtier down!
